Dreams

I’m listening on my iPod currently to the song “Look Mama” by Howard Jones off of the 80’s album (how is that for dating myself) “Dream Into Action.” I just had a flash for a moment remembering driving around Clearwater, FL where I went to high school - with my “boom box” on the passenger seat. We weren’t fancy enough to have a tape player in our car - so I had to listen to the tape on the boom box. I remember the cover of the tape very clearly with it’s bright green and his shock of hair! What just threw me though is that I am now 20 years out of high school and I am listening to this same music - with the same cover but it’s on my iPod. I’m sure the sound is much better - I can’t remember!

Sweetie,

Please, please, please listen to the Decemberists’ “Crane Wife.” Not because it is great (it is), and not because u will like it (I don’t know, but I can’t get enough of that album), but because it is new. Listening to 20 year old music is the first step to being that man who screams “Get off my yard you damn kids!”

Besides that, I think the sound is probably much much better. Cassette tapes have very little room for information on them. VCR tapes and reel-to-reel were much better mediums for taped sound. And LPs, evidently, for other formats. The CD you listen to has more information on it than the cassette did, although, according to Neil Young, less than on an LP.
