The Day that Never Was
It’s Tuesday evening here (5:48 pm) and I arrived in Melbourne this morning. I didn’t really have a Monday, we sped across the Pacific and basically skipped it. I left home at about 10 am on Sunday with my sweet Andrew and got to LA about 2:30 pm (PDT) and then flew out about 11:40 pm from LAX and got here as I said this morning. So about 31+ hours of travel. There are no stores except Duty Free in the Terminal where you take Qantas and they don’t let you bring water through security. So, don’t get there too early. Plus there are no PO Boxes anywhere. I did catch some sleep on the plane, but also watched “Dreamgirls,” “Notes on a Scandal,” part of “Borat,” and another film which I can’t remember at the moment. Very tasty food I have to say and economy was fine.
After I arrived, I took a taxi to the hotel where I will be until around May 2, and the taxi driver passed me the big map book of Melbourne and asked me to show him where the hotel is - I tried really hard not to flip out on him, which I managed to do, but I did let him know sternly that I just arrived, had never been here, and had no idea - could he perhaps call someone. He wanted me to call the hotel. Jeez. Oh well. I walked around a bit this morning, took a long nap - now am about to walk around a little more around Lygon St., eat some Italian food that I can smell from the Internet Cafe and go to bed early I think. Tomorrow is ANZAC Day so it will be a day of relaxation.
