Workin’ IT
I am in my fourth official week here as the Technology Coordinator for the Greater Midwest Region of the NN/LM.
Here is what I’m enjoying so far about Chicago:
Lilacs - there are lilacs everywhere it seems and as I recall they don’t grow very well in the South so it’s bringing back memories of my glorious [...]

Getting Into the Swing of Things
I’m settling into my new job responsibilities at NN/LM GMR (which is located at the University of Illinois at Chicago.) I even got a paycheck yesterday and I just started. They must REALLY like me. I moved to the fair city of Chicago in early May and so far am enjoying it [...]

Where It All Began
I am in Florida at the moment. I am speaking at the Florida Library Association Annual Meeting…this morning spoke on technological change and trying to get buy-in. I was pleasantly surprised by the reception and my performance. It was great to see some familiar faces in the crowd like Cheryl Wolfe, Stephanie Race and Karen [...]

Self-Parody or Self-Promotion?
I am a member of ALA and I receive their weekly email “American Libraries Direct.” I usually actually read it too - I end up skimming the first part and heading straight down to the Tech Talk area. I have to say there are usually a lot of good nuggets of information in that section [...]

It Moves Therefore It Shakes
Congratulations to all the 2008 Library Journal Movers & Shakers - and a special congrats goes out to those lovely people I have had the opportunity to work with, either in person or remotely:
Michelle Boulé
If we are lucky, SOLINET will have the lovely Ms. Boulé as an adjunct instructor in 2008 - so we have been corresponding [...]

Trading Card as Promotional Tool
At SOLINET we decided to make up these cool Trading Cards! We are going to give them out to fellow staff members at an upcoming Training Showcase so they will hopefully all know who we are and what we do - especially with a lot of changes of staff and some staff who are off-site.
This [...]

Rudy’s Library
On the plains of Nebraska, in a town of 2 people (according to the last census) there is a library with 5000 items!
If you look at this map below, it looks like nothing is there (besides beautiful nature that is)
There is a town called Monowi, Nebraska and it has been the subject of various news [...]

Island Paradise
My good friend Bryan is moving to Andros Island, the Bahamas tomorrow. He just finished a media librarian degree at GSU and got a job in a library on an island! It sounds like a really awesome opportunity and a situation where he will learn so much I think. I will really miss [...]

Raintree County
Last week I taught a Web 2.0 class in Frankfort, KY. I love that part of the state, it’s so beautiful. This time instead of teaching at KDLA, I taught at the Paul Sawyier Public Library. This library is right downtown, sort of near the Capitol on a meandering river. [...]

“They use the F word in there!”
Jeez. Like we don’t have more important things to worry about. “Weekly’s Use of ‘F’ Word Irks Missouri Patron” I wonder what he would think about some of these titles found on WorldCat.org:
Fuck Fuck Fuck
Fuck
Fuck Hollywood
Just three examples of over 1,800 results I retrieved when I typed in the “f” word.
